Diskit Monastery

Perched high on a rocky outcrop above the Shyok River, Diskit Monastery is the oldest and largest Gelugpa gompa in Nubra. Crowned by a colossal 32-meter open-air statue of Jampa (Maitreya Buddha) facing downstream toward Pakistan, the complex features ancient prayer halls, sacred murals, and sweeping panoramic views across the desert valley.
